My Teaching Philosophy
I had to write it down for my CV - I'm glad I did, cos I like it. Check it out:
I strongly believe that having the right learning climate in the classroom is the most important aspect of teaching; when students feel encouraged, accepted, capable and inspired they will produce their best work. I believe that in order to achieve these goals, the students must see the teacher as an ally in their learning experience. I believe that the relationship between teacher and student is the most critical component to good learning – when a teacher has their students’ respect and admiration, the content that the teacher wishes to deliver will always fall on good soil.

Like your filosofee!
Hangin' for 2nte!
Spot on, Richard, spot on indeed.
Very nice. A lot of teachers these days could learn from that...I'm looking at you Mrs. Graham...
Hehehe we had this awesome teacher for maths last semester. he told us lots of stories and did not much work. i learnt stuff and did well in my exam i s'pose. 94% 1% off an A+ so annoyed coz i would have got an A+ overall for the subject if i just got 1 more %
My fav teacher was my year 9 maths teacher Mr. Shnier. He was awesome! I hope some of my students say that about me one day... sigh...
Nice philosophy dboy. I love it. You'll make the best teacher. i wish I could make myself younger and manage to get in one of your classes!
Hahaha... that's a lovely thing to say. Funny, kids in my class say to me "Hey! Can you come and teach us next year? Ben over there's dad is the chairman of the school board - Ben, put in a good word so Mr. Symons can be our English teacher next year!"
My kids are beautiful. I'm sure you'll be showered with compliments, Tink. Your talk tonight was really, really good.
Craziness, it's funny the power of stories, hey? They're fun to listen to, and they can teach you heaps of stuff.
Tell us about Mrs. Graham, Guru... :)
Mr. Symons! *giggles incessantly*
Ugh, Mrs. Graham! She's the stereotype old, cranky, fun-hating teacher most people had in primary school. For someone who chose to be a primary school teacher she sure seemed to hate kids. :P
Mr. Symons, wow, that's so strange to say. I reckon you'd be an awesome teacher Danny. Just don't get crusty with age. :P
Thanks guys :)
Yeah, Mr. Barker was a gun - so dedicated too. I remember him spending his weeknights with us doing Biology revision till about 9pm.
I'm sure Mr. Pitman would've been good. I hear it enough from his students.
I agree, Guru. I don't know why on earth teachers who don't like kids ever became teachers in the first place! Not only are they making it more likely that they'll have a brain haemorrage (no idea how to spell that) through annoyance and stress, but they're doing the worst disservice to the kids they teach. There's nothing worse than that kind of teacher. They should all be shot.
Um, Dboy, there may be American school kids reading this - don't talk about shooting and schools, you'll have capn America down at his local high with his trusty fully automatic kalashnikov quicker than you can say mike moore!
Harshness!
I don't remember having any mean teachers. Thankfully. I had some bad ones, but no mean ones.
you changed you picture again... is this one from eldest? 'cos I've finally got a copy of it to read...
Anyways, i think only one story our maths teacher (I'm in crazyness' class) ever told us actually had to do with maths... i remember one about exploding fish, the intelligence of sheep, his dogs (and their german accents, don't ask) and the way people remember things.
If you think back on something you do you either see it through your eyes or from outside of yourself... he can't picture things in his mind at all for some reason...
OH! I did have a mean teacher! Mr. Crowe our PE teacher! He was mean!
That'd be compulsory with a name like that...
Yeah, crazy Americans and their 'Math' classes. They also do 'Sports'.
Go Australia and our sense making!
Hahaha... yes, flogged.
Nah, I love kids. Especially the cheeky ones. However, I do have a low tolerance for people speaking when other people do, so I tend to come down hard on kids when that happens. Generally I'm easy going - Peebody described tonight that I'd be the kind of teacher that goes off to make all the kids a coffee :)
I haven't yet. I shall have to write that down...
De-flog a whatta?
