Racism

Something I find interesting about all the news about 'racism' in Australia that everyone throws the word about without actually having a decent definition of its meaning. This is because I think there is a difference between racism and commenting generally on a social group's characteristics.

For example, people from a Middle Eastern background generally respect their women less than people of a caucasian background. It is not any more racist for me to say that than to say that British people mainly speak the English language. The fact is that there are certain characteristics assossiated with certain societal groups, and pointing these out is not racism.

So what is racism then? Does someone want to start the discussion off?

EDIT: Try not to use any dictionary references until we have had a good discussion about it :)

Interstellar Interview!

I think the interview was a hit! Praise God! Everything that I prayed for happened (of course - I've got no reason to expect anything different): I was articulate, wasn't stumped by any of the questions, engaged the interviewer in a good discussion, and had a fun time! My interviewer kept saying "Good answer" after almost everything I said, so I think that's a good sign. Plus all of my experience actually makes me ideal for the job, and my teaching philosophy is practically identical to the school's! Hooray!!!

This is me before the interview. Go get 'em!

Woooo!

Chrystal, my wonderful wife, got a job today! YAY! She'll be working as a Speech Pathologist at Tintern Girl's Grammar (which is a private school in Ringwood), which will be a lovely place to work, and also cut her travelling time down by an hour every day!

In other awesome news, I have an interview at Eltham College tomorrow morning, and it looks extremely promising! I would love to work at Eltham College. Pray for me at 9am if you can!

Chrystal's Song

Not many know, I think, that the song Chrystal sang last Sunday after her talk at church, was actually written by her! She wrote the melody and the lyrics one time, just cos she felt like it, and then took it to Megan who added chords and a harmony.

For those who weren't there, Chrystal preached up a storm, establishing that righteousness is something God gives freely to everyone who believes in Jesus ("This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe." - Romans 3:22). Therefore, if you have faith in Christ, there is no person who is more righteous than another person, and there is no way for you to become more righteous by doing works - you are absolutely blameless and in total right standing with God.

After giving the talk, she sang this song:

Like a child I come,
Into your arms
of grace and mercy,

I want to know your touch,
I reach out to you,
and I know you’ll meet me

In my time of trial,
I’ll call out your name,
and I know you’ll hear me,

I rest in your vast love,
Eternal, unchanging God

Chorus
You are the light of my life,
I will bless you Lord,

You are the strength of my soul,
I will give my all

Never let me go

I was proud as punch - never knew she could write such an awesome song. Well done to you too, Tink.

Contradict Myself

Just because I don't, doesn't mean that anyone else can.
